What is the point of having a website if it cannot be found with relative ease? The way to market your website is with Search Engine Optimization (SEO). During the SEO process, keywords or keyword phrases are skillfully placed within the content of your web page. This enables Internet users to find information when they type in a keyword or keyword phrase in the browser search box. Title tags, and Meta Description tags are properly worded and coded into your website as well. This is a very tedious and time-consuming process. A site map of your website is then created and your website is submitted to all major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, AOL, AllTheWeb, MSN, Ask Jeeves & HotBot to name a few.
Major search engines develop a database of websites. Search Engine Optimization also requires studying search engines to help determine how to get your website listed as one of the top websites, and to direct Internet users to your website first during Internet searches.

There are two ways to direct visitors to your website through Search Engine Optimization:
Organic Search Engine Optimization (natural): Organic results are free and are the list of sites that are displayed when a user searches a specific keyword, or keyword phrase.
Pay Per Click (PPC): An alternative and/or supplement to the demanding, time-consuming search engine optimization, pay-per-click (PPC) allows you to pay for a top search engine ranking for desired keyword(s). In a nutshell, advertisers (i.e., Web site/business owners) bid for the top ranking for a given keyword. The advertiser that places the highest bid is ensured the top ranking for that keyword. — Until he/she is outbid. The second-highest bid is secured the number 2 ranking; the third-highest bid will claim the 3rd spot, etc.
Google AdWords – being one of the PPC programs with the farthest reach – can be a very effective e-business marketing tool if used wisely. Bidding on the right keywords at the right time can make your Web site visible to millions of users across the Web. If you are using AdWords without a clear business plan, however, click-through fees can quickly escalate. And there is no guarantee that your conversion rates will make up for the PPC cost.
